In partnership with the Community Clinics Initiative of the Tides Foundation, JOCHS is piloting its approach to health care for vulnerable juveniles brought to detention in several counties in California. At present, JOCHS is finalizing site selection, and will post information soon regarding those selections.

The Juvenile Justice Center in Alameda County, CA, pioneered a similar, integrated approach to juvenile health and support services that became the inspiration for JOCHS. Alameda is one of the first juvenile detention centers in the nation to integrate public health with public safety, and JOCHS is tapping into that experience to learn from its successes and challenges.

I believe we need to start looking for solutions in our community. Health care is skyrocketing at unacceptable rates in both the public and private sector and no one seems to know what to do about it.
